Fancied de Lata: Spicy Tuna in Green Beans

It's saturday night already here in our country, still haven't done grocery...our fridge is almost empty-inhabited with ice cubes, cold water and some papayas (which I really don't like, but it's good for the skin so I still weeping-ly drink it (I shake them)) and our savior are canned goods.  We call foods that are in can here "de lata", it's a staple goods in the pantry that saves a hungry stomach when the fridge is all out.  Tuna is the most popular de lata especially when I was still in college.  Just open and pour it over a hot rice and I'm good to go but of course eating it almost everyday kinda makes a meal very boring so we (my sister and I) spiced it up and come up with Spicy Tuna in Green Beans.

The ingredients are no brainer:
oil enough to saute garlic
minced garlic (depends how much you like)
thinly sliced green beans or what we call here baguio beans (depends on how much you like)
a can of tuna flakes in spicy oil
salt and pepper to taste
soy sauce, optional

How to:
1.  Saute garlic.
2.  Add string beans, saute until tender (but hopefully still a bit crispy).
3.  Add the tuna.
4.  Season with salt and pepper.
5.  If you are going to eat it with rice, then add some soy sauce for extra saltiness and flavor.
6.  Simmer until everything is cooked.

And voila!  A not so boring meal!

Thai-Style Green Beans

My niece and I would love to eat more veggies and been threatening my nephew that someday I'll serve all veggies for dinner (hehehe, pure evil)  of course I can't do it.  Aside from his frowning face, her parents will definitely question me besides I'm not a vegetarian :)

Anyway, I decided to just serve a quick veggie side dish to our lazy fried luncheon meat dinner with a Thai Style Green Beans.  Saw a recipe from A Beautiful Mess blog but this recipe from tasteofhome.com is way way more easy (with my added notes).

promise, it's yummier than it looks

Thai-Style Green Beans
1 tablespoon reduced-sodium soy sauce (I used regular soy sauce)
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter
1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (I forgot to buy and used the ones from Yellowcab :P)
1 tablespoon chopped shallot (used regular onions because I can't find any shallots in SM grocery...grrr)
1 teaspoon minced fresh gingerroot
1 tablespoon canola oil

1/2 pound fresh green beans, trimmed (I cut into two since I'm not used to eating beans that are long)

It's actually yummy but I bet it'll be more flavorful if I use shallots.

Thanks for reading. Till then. Bye!

I'm Back

I'm back!  I know nobody misses me but I'm back, chocnut!  Reasons for the absence?  Disappearance of a computer to use and haggardness for daily posting.  I want to do blogging on a daily basis but my chubby body can't do it.  Oh well, here's what I've been up to lately.

I love sweets; cakes and pastries, so I'm trying to bake some goodies for myself and my family and started with vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting then cakepops.  A little modification to the  ingredients and some more tool and the two will be perfect.  As per the cooking, well my chef brother is currently not present in the house so I'll do a lot of the cooking, I'm looking some recipes in The Fat Kid Inside and Ang Sarap.

Tea, a substitute to my coffee since coffee can't maker me sleep (I love coffee but I guess the feeling is not mutual).  It's weird at first when I drink a hot cup of tea since I'm used to cold Milk Tea and Iced Tea but I begun to love it and is now looking for different kinds of tea.

Because of the planner, I'm now spending a little more just to get a stamp.  One more to go and freedom,i mean planner will be mine. Since I'm avoiding to drink coffee (as much as possible), I tried Double Chocolate which is super chocolatey but have to drop the whip cream next time and Matcha Green Tea Swirl which I think many will not like at first.  It's like eating grass with milk but I still like it! Yummy!
